Chapter 19

15 minutes pass as Hideaki look at his watch, “Train leaving to Hokkaido will be leaving in 10 minutes. Please proceed to the train if you have not” the announcer said as Hideaki look at the entrance.

“She will come…” he whispers to himself but then he looks at his watch again. He proceeds onto the train as he sat down.

“Maybe not getting high hopes is a good thing” he mumbles while looking out the window when suddenly a figure sat in front of him.

“Sorry I’m late. I couldn’t leave without checking on the three that are watching the café” Kaiyo said taking a deep breath as Hideaki face brightens up. “I cannot believe without me there, they actually brought chaos first thing in the morning” Kaiyo said leaning back on the seat

“Hong Ki mess up something again?” Hideaki asked

“Actually it started with him trying to slide off the counter with a broken leg, in which he landed on the table and then he burn the toast, Chou press the foam button too many times overflowing it and Ryosuke was trying to stop the foam from overflowing and slip and then Hong Ki join in and well let’s just say the café won’t be open for today”” Kaiyo said.

“I’m glad you didn’t back out this time” Hideaki said as Kaiyo look at him.

“I won’t miss a free trip to Hokkaido, not that stupid” Kaiyo said smiling as Hideaki sat next to her.

“Let’s make a deal”

“Don’t tell me this trip is actually a mission” Kaiyo asked looking at him.

“No, the deal is, to forget every little problem in Tokyo for the next few days. Just have fun and more fun” Hideaki said as Kaiyo nod her head. “Remember if I catch you calling them or thinking about them I’m gonna do this” he suddenly flick her forehead as she cover it before he can flick it again.

“That hurt!” she yelp smacking him on his arm.

“Then don’t think about anything in Tokyo” Hideaki said as Kaiyo made a face at him.

She suddenly leans on his shoulder as he looks down at her, “Its going to be a long trip, I’m going to take a nap. When we get there wake me up” she said closing her eyes as Hideaki still look at her.

“This may be a new beginning for us” Hideaki said as he wrapped his arms around her shoulder.

As she closes her eyes, in her heads the voice that she didn’t hear for so long echo repeatedly in her mind. She close her eyes and push it out of her mind, “Kaiyo, you must ignore it. He’s back for a reason but you will not deal with it. Just have fun, like Chou said explore the feeling or relationship” Kaiyo said in her head

Little did they know from distance a figure in the shadow was watching them as his fist tighten up

At the café, three of them sat restlessly on the chair as they gulp down the cup of water.

“I never knew taking care of a café is this complicated” Chou said.

“Why didn’t she just open a bakery shop?” Hong Ki asked.

“Because she loves coffee beside, it was her dream to own one since little” Chou said.

“Since Kaiyo caught us screwing up her café…and we can’t open for today what should we do?” Hong Ki asked.

“Well…I’m thinking of taking a walk around the area to get to know it better” Ryosuke said.

“I’m thinking of going to work for Yesung again” Chou said.

“You’re not afraid people will talk about you messing around with your boss?” Hong Ki asked.

“Why should I?” He dumps Sunny and then dates me. We didn’t do anything wrong so why should I be afraid?” Chou asked.

“You got a point there. Well do what you do. As for me…I might as well take a walk with Ryosuke. If he gets lost I won’t have a son I mean brother to repay Kaiyo.” Hong Ki said as the three of them got up and closed the café and departed their own ways.

At the breakfast table Riyo kept looking at Jin who was reading the newspaper,

“Jin?”

“Yeah?”

“I want to ask you about your childhood” Riyo said.

“Sure go ahead”

“So what was it like?” Riyo asked.

“Well, I was born in Japan but when I was 10 my parent’s got into a car accident and I was place in adoption care. There I met some friends and then a year later I was adopted and taken to America” Jin said.

“Among those friends…were any of them like…special to you?” Riyo asked.

“Let’s see… one of them which were a girl. She was one of my close best friend but we lost communication when I moved and when I sent her mails, it return back. It seems like she left.”

“Ah did you go to look for her when you return?” Riyo asked.

“You’re quite nosy aren’t you?” Jin asked with a smile.

“I’m just curious about her” Riyo said eating her sausage.

“I did for a few days but then I decided I better not since maybe right now she’s happily married and have kids, plus I’m with you so I just let it go” Jin said.

“That easily?” Riyo asked.

“Sure why not. She probably moved on with her life so I just leave it all behind me” Jin said as Riyo just nod her head as she continues to eat.

“How about you? What about your childhood?” Jin asked taking a sip of his coffee.

“I’m also an orphan and grew up there. I never know about my parent’s nor if I have any siblings. The people that I live now are the ones that I grew up with since the orphanage” Riyo said.

“Ah no wonder we feel connected both you and me were orphans”

“Well you were only for a year, me almost my whole life” Riyo said as Jin held her hand.

“But you’re not anymore” he said with a smile.

At the police station, they sat there playing on their computer,

“THIS IS DRIVING ME INSANE!!!” Lillian yelled standing up from her chair.

“I don’t know where they hell the criminals are when we need them to do something” Hiro mumbled

“Hey at least we have some free time, you guys would always complain about being too busy” Keiichiro said as he continues to play games on his computer.

“I don’t get it why we have to be here when Jin gets to go out?” Hiro asked.

“Because he’s the inspector duh” Lillian said as she smacks him in the head when she walks by.

An officer stop by the office as everybody look at him,

“Hey Keiichiro, we’re on a case and we need to borrow somebody from your station to help us with some paperwork” he said as Erika stood up.

“Let me help” she said pushing the officer out before somebody said anything.

As Erika head downstairs she noticed Ryo was standing there talking to an inspector. He saw her looking at him as he gave her a small wave. She wave back and went to work. A few minutes later, Ryo stood in front of Erika,

“How are you doing?” Ryo asked.

“Better than the last time you saw me” Erika replied, “Why are you here?”

“A lawyer at a police station what else would I be doing here?” Ryo asked as Erika blush lightly.

“Totally forgot that you’re a lawyer” Erika said as she looks at her watch, “ah I got to get going. I see you around!” Erika said as Ryo called out to her

“Do you want to have dinner tonight?”

“You’re talking to me?” Erika asked.

“No I would be talking to the guy behind you” Ryo joke sarcastically as Erika look around. “You duh”

“You don’t have any plans?”

“My landlord is out on vacation, I’m living with a bunch of crazy lunatics so no plans” Ryo said.

“Sure…where should I meet you?” Erika asked.

“How about I pick you up?” Ryo asked.

“Sure.” Erika said writing down her address on a sheet of paper and handed it to him.

“I pick you up around 8 if that’s fine with you” Ryo asked.

“Sure, I see you then” Erika said leaving as Ryo watches her walk and stop to take glances at him. She disappears in the elevators as Ryo look at the sheet of paper. He folds it and places it in his pocket and walk off whistling.

Hong Ki and Ryosuke walk around the area as Hong Ki pointed out certain stores to Ryosuke who was writing it down his notebook. They finally sat down at a small café to eat.

“So, Ryosuke let’s chat” Hong Ki asked.

“Sure, first question how the hell did you break your leg?” Ryosuke asked.

“Hey I’m the one suppose to be asking the question not you” Hong Ki said as he put his smoothie cup down.

“It’s more fun to hear your stories than mines” Ryosuke said as he continue to suck through the straw

“It’s an accident okay?”

“Are you sure?” Ryosuke asked as Hong Ki ignore him. He looks up and noticed Lillian and her teammates walk into the shop.

Ryosuke look at where Hong Ki was looking at as he smile at Hong Ki. Lillian turns around and noticed Hong Ki who turn away. She walks over to their table and smacks him on the back,

“Yo, why are you here?” Lillian asked.

“Taking a friend around” Hong Ki said as Ryosuke wave.

“I thought you would be hanging out at your friend’s café” Lillian said as she pulled a chair and sat down.

“Oh the boss went on vacation and she didn’t want to us to wreck things so she sorta lock us out” Hong Ki said.

“Not us but you” Ryosuke corrected.

Keiichiro, Hiro, and Erika sat down on the table where Lillian was at,

“So Lillian new boyfriend?” Hiro asked.

“Uh no, just a friend. He’s Lee Hong Ki and this is…” Lillian stop as Ryosuke introduce himself,

“Sasaki Ryosuke” Ryosuke said as Keiichiro look at him,

“You have the same last name as Kaiyo”

“She’s my older sister” Ryosuke said.

“I never knew she has a younger brother” Keiichiro said.

“Dude, are you still in love with her? She’s getting married” Hiro said.

“I can’t take interest in a friend sheesh” Keiichiro mumble as he sat back.

“I’m confused…” Ryosuke said.

“Just ignore these two idiots” Lillian said.

“So…have any plans for tonight?” Hong Ki asked.

“Yeah going out with Micky” Lillian said.

“I see”

And soon it became quiet; Hong Ki looked at his watch and look at Lillian and her teammate talking.

“Well we should get going Ryosuke. Nice to meet you guys, bye!” Hong Ki said as he and Ryosuke departed from the café. Hong Ki looks back at Lillian and let out a sigh,

“You like her don’t you?” Ryosuke asked.

“No I don’t”

“Yes you do, I can see it in your eyes. I’m pretty mature for my age you know” Ryosuke said patting Hong Ki on the shoulder.

“Sure you are” Hong Ki said as they continue to walk.

“So how long have you been crushing on her?” Ryosuke asked.

“About 2 weeks at least” Hong Ki said as Ryosuke poke him,

“But she has a boyfriend and yet…”

“I know… stupid feelings” Hong Ki mumble.

“Ah I know, you can write out your feelings, probably it helps” Ryosuke said.

“Write my feelings?”

“Yep, like in a letter or blog or something” Ryosuke said.

“Maybe that would help” Hong Ki said.

“Ah I wonder what Hideaki and neechan are doing” Ryosuke wonder.

“Probably making more siblings for you” Hong Ki said to himself as Ryosuke look at him weirdly. “I mean having fun of course!” Hong Ki said pushing Ryosuke to move forward

Hideaki and Kaiyo got off the train as they went to the front of the station, “so where are we off to now?” Kaiyo asked.

“Drop our luggage off at the hotel, and then go eat.” Hideaki said.

“After that sightseeing?” Kaiyo asked.

“Sure but you do know we’re staying here more than 2 days.”

“Yeah I know I have a lot of place listed while you were sleeping” Kaiyo said.

“I wasn’t sleeping, my eyes was resting” Hideaki claimed

“Sure…sure it was” Kaiyo said as Hideaki haul over a taxi as they got in. Once they arrive at the hotel, Hideaki excuse himself to make a phone call as he handed Kaiyo his credit card. Kaiyo went to the front desk to get a room,

“Hi, how may I help you?” the receptions asked.

“Do you have a big room with two separate beds?” Kaiyo asked.

“Sorry Miss. we only have honeymoon suite that is available.” She said.

“Oh…”

“So do you want to take it?” she asked.

Kaiyo stood there and begin thinking, suddenly Chou’s words echoes in her mind. “Give him a chance, give you two a chance”

“Sure I take it” Kaiyo said as she handed Hideaki’s credit card to the women who begin typing in the information.

“Here is your card back, and please sign here.” She said as Kaiyo sign the receipt, the lady then handed her two card keys. Your room will be in 420, please enjoy your stay. As she signal the bellhop to carry the bags up the room.

Hideaki hang up his cellphone as he ran to catch up with Kaiyo and the bellhop. They got into the elevator and got off at the 4th floor. Kaiyo slide the car key and walk into the room. The bellhop place the bag down as Kaiyo handed him his tip. He left the room as Hideaki look around and noticed only one queen size bed. He looks at Kaiyo who was outside on the balcony.

“Its it just me or there is only one bed” Hideaki asked

“Its not you, its one bed, they ran out of beds so I just went with this one” Kaiyo replied as she walk back into the room.

“One bed and there are two of us…” Hideaki said slowly.

“You sleep on one side and I sleep on the other side or do you prefer to sleep on the couch or the floor?” Kaiyo asked as Hideaki look at her.

“Sure which side you prefer?” Hideaki asked.

“Hm…probably the right side, since its away from the balcony. Don’t want the sun to be in my face early in the morning” Kaiyo said as she lay down on her side of the bed and look at Hideaki who continue to look at her weirdly.

“Why are you looking at me so weirdly?” Kaiyo asked.

“You’re different somehow” Hideaki replied

“Maybe it’s the coldness that got into my head” Kaiyo said as she jumps off the bed to unpack.

“Maybe” Hideaki said as he excuse himself to outside of the hallway.

“Now Kaiyo don’t go overboard with this new self or else you will regret it” Kaiyo mumble as she continues to unpack.

Chou was sitting at her desk as she continues to type up reports, the elevator bell ding as she looks up.

“Everything will be fine, you’re just his secretary nothing more” Chou whispers to herself as she noticed Yesung walking out with a few people behind him. He was talking on the phone as he walk pass her.

“Phew he didn’t see me” Chou said as she continues to type when the telephone rang. “Hello this is the Kim’s Corporation how may I…”

“Can you come in here for a minute” Yesung said over the phone as Chou took a deep breath before getting up.

“He just wants me to probably grab him some reports” Chou said as she took a few folders from her table. She stops in front of his office door and begin counting to five.

She knocks on the door as Yesung told her to come in.

“Mr. Kim what do you need?” Chou asked as Yesung signal the people in his office to leave.

Once they left Yesung got up as Chou step backward

“Are you that afraid of me?” Yesung asked as Chou tried not to look at him.

“You’re my boss and I’m your employee nothing can happen between us” Chou said as Yesung continue to move forward as Chou continue to move backward until she was against the wall

“There isn’t anything in the rule book that the boss and his employee cannot date is there?” Yesung asked

“Yes there is” Chou said as she tries to escape but was block by Yesung

“Screw the rules” Yesung said loudly starling Chou as he grabs onto her arms tightly and pulled her closer to him. There were just a few inches apart as Chou look at him, “I already broken the first rule in which was not to fall in love with you” Yesung said as lean toward her “I keep on telling myself not to but I don’t know why the more I try, the more I became attracted to you”

Chou look at him as she noticed tears was in his eyes, “I’m sorry, I should have not come into your life” Chou whisper.

“You don’t need to be sorry, because of you I realized my whole life was a lie, because of you I realized what I need to do” Yesung said as he pulled her into his arms as his grip tighten.

“I love you”

Chou eyes widen when she heard those three words coming out from Yesung, her throat went dry as she doesn’t know what to do. From the start her meeting with him was all a lie and now it has become a bigger lie than she thought it would. She tries to tell him the truth but nothing would come out. She tries to push Yesung away but couldn’t. His grip tightens as she tries too. She gave up and stood there not knowing what to do until her cellphone rang. She reaches into her pocket and that’s when Yesung let her go.

“I’m sorry for the outburst” Yesung said as Chou look at him and at her cellphone.

“I’m sorry I got to go” Chou said as she ran out the door.

As she ran out the door she ran toward the elevator. When the door closes shut she redial the number that called her a few minutes ago.

“Hey Riyo what did you call for?”

“I heard Hong Ki said you went back to work, just wondering do you want to go out for lunch” Riyo asked

“Sure, same place?”

“Yep.”

“Great I see you then” Chou said hanging up. “God! Why do you have to torture me?!” Chou yelled in the elevator as people who were in the elevator look at her weirdly. “Just mind your own business” Chou said as they look away.

Kaiyo and Hideaki were taking a walk outside as Hideaki was looking at the map,

“I thought you came here before”

“If I did, I wouldn’t be using a map” Hideaki said trying to figure out where to go next.

Kaiyo sat down when she felt something weird. She turns around but saw nothing.

“Kaiyo, don’t be so sensitive, nobody is watching you” Kaiyo mumbled to herself.

“I figure where to go next” Hideaki said as he approaches Kaiyo who was poking the bench

“That took you long enough” Kaiyo said as she stood up when suddenly Hideaki’s phone went off.

“Be right back”

“Hey you said no cellphone on this trip!” Kaiyo complained

“I said you not me. When we made the deal I said you cannot use or pick up your cellphone but I didn’t say I couldn’t” Hideaki said with a smirk

“You’re such a…”

“Let me take this phone call first” Hideaki said as he walk distance away from her

“You better sleep with your eyes open tonight!” Kaiyo yelled as Hideaki pretend he didn’t hear anything.

When Hideaki was standing from distance he took a few glances at Kaiyo who was marking on the map as she smile to herself. She look at him as he looks away,

“I wonder who is on the other line that is making him look serious…”Kaiyo asked herself as Hideaki ran back to where she was sleeping.

“Sorry I have to say this” before he could finish Kaiyo cut in,

“I have business and you go off by yourself?” Kaiyo asked.

“How did you…”

“I been your partner for quite plus your face look serious over the phone call. I guess you got some business to attend to am I right?” Kaiyo asked.

“I will be gone for half the day”

“Yeah sure” Kaiyo mumble as she lean back on the bench pouting

“How about this, you go off and have fun and I will meet you back at the hotel” Hideaki said

“Fine but I’m keeping your credit card” Kaiyo said waving his wallet in front of him.

“How did you get that?”

“Don’t forget I did teach Chou and Riyo to pick pocket” Kaiyo said as she took his credit cards and hand him back his wallet.

“Don’t exceed the limit” Hideaki said

“Who knows I’m mad I just might as well do that” Kaiyo said as she smirk and walk past Hideaki when he pulls her back.

“I’ll make it up to you okay”

“Let’s just see” Kaiyo said as she lean closer to Hideaki but then retreat back.

“To make sure you don’t break your deal I’ll be keeping this” Hideaki said waving her cellphone in front of her.

“How did you…”

“I also know how to pick pocket too. So don’t underestimate me” Hideaki said with a smirk.

“Go ahead and keep it, I will be too busy spending your money anyways” Kaiyo said as she smile at Hideaki who pull her closer to his body. He place a quick kiss on her lip as he look deeply in her eyes,

“Be careful out there okay?” he said

“I think I should be the one saying that to you not you saying it to me” Kaiyo said placing a kiss on his cheek as she lean toward his ears, “and good luck”

She moved away from his arms and begins to walk off,

“Have fun!” Hideaki yelled from distance as Kaiyo who turn around waving at him and begin to walk off.

Hideaki turns around as he looks at the area. For some reason he felt another presence within the area but look at his watch. He begins to walk off toward another mission.

The sky was not sunny as usual today. The only thing that was good about it was the clear blue sky. Riyo look at the sky as she took a deep breath. So much things have been going on this past month that herself cannot even handle. Jungmin appearance, Jin turns out to be the person she always hoped to find since her childhood days and that Mike never intend to leave her by herself…but actually he did when he got murdered. She suddenly stops as she recognizes the figure standing in front of her.

Jungmin stood there looking at her. She stared at the person in front of her, that person isn’t Jungmin.

It couldn’t be...

The person standing in front of her looks like he didn’t sleep for days and it’s like his soul was not even there. Riyo held back her tears not wanting him to see it. It was because of her he’s like this. If it wasn’t because of her he wouldn’t be in this state. She took a deep breath in and begins to walk as she passed by him; she took a glimpse of the Jungmin that she was walking by.

Suddenly everything stop, she felt his grip on her arm.

It was not a tight grip and she could push his hand off but she didn’t. She stood there waiting; her heartbeat was beating faster as Jungmin face her.

“It took me quite a while to actually get the courage to talk to you” he said as Riyo stood still. “Every time I see you I wanted to run up to hold you in my arms ago but then I remember things has change between us. I always tell myself I need to move on but I couldn’t.”

“Why did you do this to yourself” Riyo asked as he avoids her eyes.

“Two years ago there was nothing left beside a puddle of blood and you went missing”

“I can explain…”

“You don’t need to. I’m scared once I know the truth, I can’t let you go” Jung Min said as Riyo tears begin to fall. Jung Min slowly reaches his hand out to wipe her tears but then he stops realizing he shouldn’t.

“I’m going to be leaving Japan soon. I wanted to see you before I leave” he said as Riyo stood there listening to him. “I realized there are certain things I cannot force upon you. Maybe it’s the best if we just cherish those memories instead am I right?” Jung Min asked as he handed her a gift bag.

“Jung Min you don’t need to give me anything…”

“Just pretend it as a goodbye present or congratulation present for me to you and Jin” Jung Min said swallowing his tears.

“You don’t need to say anything else. I can guess what you’re going to say next already. We should just leave it like how it was 2 years ago.” Jung Min said held her hand and place the bag into her hand

“Take care” Jung Min said as he slowly let go of her hand as he begins to walk away. Riyo stood there wanting to say something but nothing would come out.

She watches him slowly walk off, that moment for some reason she wanted to run after him and hug him but she stood there. She’s now with Jin not with Jung Min.

She watched him cross the street without turning around. She keeps on repeating to herself he was her past but her brain wouldn’t listens to her. Her legs begin to move toward the direction he was walking. Her pace begins to quicken hopefully to catch up to him. She begins to run with all her strength till she can finally catch up to him.

Jung Min continues to walk as he tries to refrain himself from turning around. He stops in his track telling himself over and over not to turn around. Riyo stop in her track as she noticed Jung Min standing there yelling at himself not to go back. Her heart begins to ache as she noticed the pain she put him through. She begins to back away but stops.

For some reason she wanted to run into his arms and tell him everything will be alright but she couldn’t. Her cellphone begin to vibrate as she took a quick glance and on it says Jin. She doesn’t know why but her figure move over to the ignore button and push itself. She looks up noticing Jung Min begin to walk away again. This time she ignores everything gripping onto the gift bag he placed in her hand tightly as she ran toward him.

She suddenly wraps her arms around him from the back as he stop in his place. He knows who it was. He place his hands onto hers hoping this moment would last. He didn’t dare turn around because he felt if he does he can never let her go.

“I’m sorry Jung Min…I’m sorry for the pain I caused you” Riyo whispered letting out her tears as her grip around him tighten.

Chou whom was walking to the restaurant noticed Riyo from across the street. She took a few steps closer to make sure it was Riyo but stops when she saw who Riyo was hugging from behind and it was not for fact Jin but Jung Min. Her eyes widen as she gasp at what she was seeing.

“Why is Riyo with Jung Min? I thought she wanted to avoid him…” Chou wonders as she hides behind the car to avoid Riyo seeing her.

Kaiyo held a few shopping bags in her hand as she continues to look at the map in her hand. “Where off to now…”

Suddenly a figure ran past her full speed knocking both of them down.

“My god can you watch where you are running!” she yelled as the guy excuse himself picking up the photos he dropped on the ground.

“I am sorry” he then ran off before Kaiyo could continue to yell at him but he was out of her sight. She stood up brushing the snow off from the jacket as she noticed something on the ground. She bent down to pick it up. It was a photo of a sunset.

“So he’s a photographer…since he doesn’t know he lost this one I might as well keep it” she said to herself placing it in the bag.

She picks up the map off the floor and look at it when she felt a pair of eyes looking at her from the back. She turns around as her eyes widen,

“HyunJoong?”

He smile at her as he slowly approaches her,

“Why are you here?” she asked.

“I miss you” he said as he pulled her into his arms. Kaiyo stood still as he held her closer to him. “I really miss you”

Chou observes Riyo and Jung Min from distance as she took a bite from her apple. “How long are they going to stand like that? If this was a drama it will get low rating” Chou mumbled as she noticed something was happening.

Jung Min slowly pulls away from her grip. They were facing each other but Riyo kept staring at the ground.

“You don’t need to be sorry for anything. This is how life is, our destiny” Jung Min whispered as he wipe her tears with one of his hand while the other holding onto her hand

“Always remember that I always have and will love you” Jung Min said slowly moving back. His grip on her hand begin to loosen and slowly letting go of her hand. She looks up at him wanting to hold onto his warm hands again but she didn’t. It was a mistake all along to go after him and breaking down in front of him.

Jung Min turns around and ran off but this time he didn’t stop. His figure disappears within the crowds as Riyo tears begin to come out again. Jung Min stop behind a building as he lean against the wall letting his tears fall down. He punch the wall till blood appear on his knuckles,

“Why didn’t you fight for her…why are you such a coward?” he asked himself

Riyo fell down to the ground crying as Chou appears next to her hugging her.

“Riyo it’s okay just let it all out” she whisper holding onto her best friend as she continues to cry.

“Chou, it hurts so much to let him go” she cried as she clench onto her best friend.

“I know how it feels just that mines are about lying to him instead” Chou mumbled.

“I don’t know why but I didn’t want to let him go. I know I’m selfish for leaving him to be with Jin but I just don’t know why I didn’t want to let him go” Riyo cried

“There, there time will heal your wound…I hope” Chou said as she hug her best friend.

People passing by keep looking wondering at the same time, why Riyo was crying and in so much pain. Chou sat there with her friend hoping time will actually heal her wound.
